Robert Lee Barfield, Jr., affectionately known as “RL,” passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026.
He was born September 22, 1943.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Karen H. Barfield; his daughters, Jerri Lynn Carroll (the
late Lee Carroll) of Bath Springs, Tennessee, and Brandi Smith (Dean Smith) of Augusta, Georgia; and
his cherished grandchildren, Derek Smith and Allison Smith.
He is also survived by his sister, Bobbie Barfield of Gainesville, Florida; and his nephews and niece,
Gene Daughtery of Maryland, Jennifer Carroll of California, and Michael Register of North Carolina.
RL was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, and proud grandfather. He was loved by
many and will be deeply missed.
A lover of fishing, RL found joy and peace on the water and will be remembered for his steady
presence, kind heart, and deep love for his family.
