RJ Bass' Obituary
RJ Bass, 93, of Gainesville, FL passed away April 28, 2022. RJ was born in Bell, FL to Richard and Josephine Douglas Bass. RJ married the love of his life, Juanita Stalans Bass and were blessed with celebrating 72 years of marriage and two loving daughters. RJ worked for the City of Gainesville for many years until his retirement.
RJ’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. He especially loved the holidays and fish fries. He was a man of faith and a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church. It was important to him that his yard as well as the church yard were always well manicured and kept clean.
RJ was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alvin Bass, and son-in-law Marty Crosby.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita, his daughters, Linda Crosby, and Diann (Rick) Poole; grandchildren Darrin (Amy) and Jason (Malinda) Crosby, and 3 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Anna Lee, and Grayson. Also surviving are his sisters, Betty Kay Watkins, and Rose “Dollar” Lindsey (Levis) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11AM at Williams-Thomas Downtown Chapel, 404 N Main St. with Pastor Edwin Gardener officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior, beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in his name to Haven Hospice 4200 NW 90th Blvd Gainesville, FL 32606 or New Hope Baptist Church 2616 SE 35th St. Gainesville, FL 32641.
