Rick "Coach" L. Waltrip's Obituary
Rick L. Waltrip (“Coach”), died in Gainesville Florida on February 13, 2023. He was born on April 20, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Mentor, Coach, Veteran, Church Leader, and Volunteer. He was adored by children of all ages and was often known as the “Pied Piper”. He made a lasting impact on many people over the years and over the miles.
He is predeceased by his father, Bud Waltrip, and brother Dana B. Waltrip. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Laura Waltrip, his mother, Ellen Waltrip, and his siblings including Belinda Pietrobono (Terry), Pam Sorzano (Al), Mark Waltrip, Glenn Waltrip, and Colleen Goldstein (Bruce); brothers-in-law, Mike Hoeft and Eddie Hoeft (Janet), sisters-in-law, Pam Hall, and Maryann Walker (Donny).
His children include Shawn Waltrip (Brandi), Emily Moore (Franklin), Drew Waltrip, and Robert Waltrip. His 13 grandchildren were a great source of joy and include Raelyn, Dylan, Logan, Emma, Addison, Anden, Presley, Anais, Harper, Sadie, Averi, Anneston, and Ashlynn. He also has many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 11:00 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 10900 S.W. 24th Ave. Gainesville with Fr. Alberto Esposito as celebrant. Internment will be held in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell Florida on March 6, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.
The family is requesting no formal or somber attire.
