Richard Charles Straub's Obituary
Richard Charles Straub, 71, of Gainesville, FL, passed away following a brief illness on Sunday, May 24, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving wife Rose Straub, son Petru Straub, daughter Ruslana Straub and his sister Margaret Straub from Port Orange, Florida. and many nieces from Tampa, Florida. Fr. Alberto Esposito, Deacon John, and beloved co-workers’ doctors and nurses.
Richard was born March 20, 1955, in Syracuse, New York to Charles George Straub and Dorothy Elizabeth Grigson Straub, Richard lived a life marked by faith, compassion, humility, and service to others. He graduated from University of Buffalo, NY. with a Bachelor of Science. He completed a pre-requisite study for a Physician Assistant Program in Oswego, New York. Later, earning his Bachelor of R.N degree in Ocala, Florida.
Richard devoted his professional life to caring for others as a registered nurse in Gainesville, Florida possessing a brilliant and inquisitive mind, he was also a proud member of Mensa International club. Though highly intelligent and cultured, Richard was known most for his kindness, and gentle spirit. He respected everyone he encountered.
As a faithful Christian, Richard was a devoted member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. His faith guided every aspect of his life and was reflected in the love and compassion he showed to family, friends, and all those around him.
Later in life, Richard met the love of his life, Rose Schiavino, theirs was a beautiful love story. Together they built a loving family and adopted two beloved children, Ruslana and Petru Straub, whom Richard adored with all his heart. His greatest joys were his family, his church, and the people he served and loved throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife Rose, his children Ruslana and Petru and his sister Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 10900 SW 24th Ave., Gainesville, FL with Fr. Alberto Esposito as celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation one-hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m.
