Richard Allen Smith's Obituary
Smith, Richard A., 80 of Newberry died peacefully at home on August 18, 2014.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1956, he spent most of his life in Michigan. He loved the outdoors and spent several years coaching ice hockey. He worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 35 years. He is a member of NARFE 185, Gainesville.
He is survived by his wife Wilma of 56 years, son Frank (Christina) of Oceanside, CA, daughter Karen McCleave of Gainesville, two grandchildren McKinzie and Wyatt Smith, and his faithful dog Sasie.
The family will receive friends Thursday Aug. 21, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 S.W. 24th Ave. a Mass of Christian Burial will follow At 6:00 p.m. with Fr. Jeff McGowan as celebrant . Donations can be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Boulevard, Gainesville, FL 32606.
