Richard Allen Race's Obituary
Richard Allen Race, age 75 of Gainesville, FL passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at North Florida Regional Medical Hospital. He was born in Marinette, WI July 28, 1944 to Joseph R. and Fern Virginia (Harper) Race. He served his country in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman. It was during his time in this capacity that he developed an interest in nursing. He earned a BS in Environmental Science and worked ten years in Milwaukee, WI for the Metropolitan Sewage District. He and his wife, Laura moved to Gainesville, FL in 1982 where he later continued his education. He earned his BS in Nursing at University of Florida and practiced as a Registered Nurse. He was an Avid Gator fan and had a great passion for golfing.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 40 years, Laura C. Race; brothers, Barry L. Race of South Carolina; Gerald (Sherry) Race of Ft. Myers, FL; and Thomas J. (Kay) Race of Lafarge, WI, and his niece Cara Lynne Race of Reston, VA. He will be missed by many friends, neighbors and former colleagues as well.
