Tom and I shared so many good times with Dick and Vicky. Thank you for letting us get to know your wonderful family. I'll refrain from motorcycle stories since most people have already heard them I'll pick just one topic since there are so many. Dick and Vicky are both so creative but never more so than the vision for their home. So much thought and creativity went into that house and property. When we saw it we couldn't imagine how it could ever be habitable. I would hear Dick's stories of the latest building construction problem.. He had some really funny stories in addition to the serious ones. But when house was finally finished it looked like something off the front cover of a magazine for dream homes. It was amazing! Dick we miss you already. Keep trying to pick up the phone to ask you a question or just say "HI" Our deepest sympathy to the entire Helmig family. Much Love from the Mitchells.

I went to school and church with Dick and high school with Vickie.. He was a a hard worker on his families farm. The whole family was a blessing to the community of Linn, Missouri. My sympathy to the family and friends.

I first met Dick while working with Vickie at the UF Health Center in the late 70's and early 80's. They were a great, fun couple. They even hired my rock band for an outdoor party, but we had to quit playing early because a neighbor kept calling the cops!

One of Dick's many endeavors was a custom van business in Ocala. The stock seats and wheels were taken out so that the vans would be an empty shell. Lucky for Dick's friends, the stock seats, wheels and other parts could be sold at bargain prices. We were thrilled to get new seats (with seatbelts!) for our old Dodge van. My brother got seats for his hot rod Volkswagen. He still has the seats!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dick's family. We had some great times together so many years ago. Love to you all.

Dick and I started working at Shands, on the exact same day, in October 1997. We went thru orientation together, became friends and worked alongside each other for the next 20 years. He was a very dear friend to me and will always have a special place in my heart! He always took the time to lend his expertise, to help solve professional issues and would lend an ear to listen to personal issues, in time of need. His character, integrity, skills, humor and compassion touched the lives of an innumerable amount of people...Vicki, we will pray for comfort for you and your loved ones...Dick, we will see you again...all our Love, Candice & Mike Brown

I met Dick through Vicki. He offered to help my daughter with an issue with her wheelchair. Not only did he come up with an extremely clever and effective fix, but he got us connected with the Western Carolina University engineering department who provided additional modifications and projects. Dick was an extremely bright and caring man. He always treated our daughter with compassion and dignity. If you took the time to listen he also had a great sense of humor.
