Richard H Stauffer's Obituary
Richard H. Stauffer, 77, of Gainesville, FL passed away Friday, September 30, 2022, in Gainesville. He was born March 9, 1945, in Pottstown, PA to Samuel and Ida Bonslaver Stauffer. After graduating from Pennsylvania Military College, he served as an officer in the United States Army, including a tour in Vietnam. He then continued with his education, earning two master’s degrees. He taught English at Newberry High School for many years. He was then called to the ministry, earned his MDiv from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and was ordained as a Methodist minister. He served several churches, including his longest appointment of 13 years at First United Methodist Church of Hawthorne.
Thirty-four years ago, he met and married the love of his life, Katherine. Together they have 4 children. His identity was closely correlated with his love of teaching and preaching. These were the great passions of his life. He was an avid lifetime runner. He participated in several marathons and numerous other races. He dearly loved spending time with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Katherine, children; Lynda Stauffer, Edward (Kati) Harper, Gregory (Karen) Harper, and Michelle (Miles) Hebert, brother, Dr. Robert (Sherry) Stauffer, and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10:00am at First United Methodist Church of Hawthorne 6680 SE 219th Terrace, Hawthorne, FL with Chaplain Arty Hart officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service beginning at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
