Rand Edelstein
Mr. Rand Edelstein, 85, a fourth generation resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Thursday, December 29, 2022, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Edelstein was born in Gainesville, Florida , son of the late Marc and Gina Edelstein on February 26, 1937. He graduated from Gainesville High School and then attended and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, then being commissioned into the U. S. Army Airborne Ranger school. On his completion of his military service, he began a long career in finance, working as a manager and financial advisor for many years with Merrill Lynch, until his retirement in 2007.
Mr. Edelstein had many interests, from fly fishing around the world for Tarpon and Permit, to playing golf, first becoming a Florida Junior Champion and later a six time club champion at his home course of Gainesville Country Club. He had been an active volunteer for the Salvation Army, giving both his time and talents.
Mr. Edelstein was preceded in death by his brother Marc Edelstein.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Geraldine Edelstein; a daughter, Rhonda (Steve) Williams, of Franklin, TN; one son Randy (Kim) Edelstein, of Cape Coral, FL; two step-sons, Brent Salley and Shawn Salley, both of Gainesville, along with five grandchildren, Carli and Weston Williams, Sierra Edelstein, and Nicholas and Daniel Salley.
