R. David Stauffer's Obituary
R. David Stauffer, of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the age of 70, after suffering a heart attack on the 18th hole of the Golden Ocala Golf Club. He was born to Richard and Marybelle Stauffer. David attended Lutheran schools in Fort Wayne, IN, completed his undergraduate education at Valparaiso University and obtained an MA degree in psychology from Vermont College.
During his career in marketing and administration, he helped launch the Culligan Co. in the Chicago area. He moved from Ft. Wayne to Pinellas County and then made Gainesville his home in 1994. David was employed by Oak Hammock in marketing from its inception. He continued as CEO after the development opened and left that position to work with the development company. In recent years he and two partners created AWS, a company providing primary health care services to assisted living residents.
An avid golfer, David was twice president of Gator Golf Boosters and three times president of Gainesville Golf and Country Club. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian and Captain of the Gator Tip-Off Club.
David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gail Sasnett-Stauffer; his children Greg (Jill) Stauffer, Gretchen Hansen, Brad Stauffer, Rhett Janssen and Shannon Janssen; grandchildren JD, Madison and Mia; and siblings Susan (Jerry), Betsy (Joe) and Ed (Barb).
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., in the Worship Center of Trinity United Methodist Church, 4000 NW 53rd Avenue, Gainesville.
