Pilar Thornton's Obituary
Pilar was born in Havana Cuba on January 14, 1932. She came to the United States with her family in the 1940’s. She attended and graduated from Miami Jackson High School with honors. She started and was President of the Spanish Club at the time of graduation.
She met her future husband, Robert Thornton, at the skating rink. They were married and started their family in Hialeah Florida. They raised their family in the Catholic faith, and they attended the Catholic schools. They devoted their time to their family and volunteered many hours to the church and youth group at St. John the Apostle Church in Hialeah Florida.
She worked 25 years and retired from the Miami Dade School Board. Bob picked her up in their new motor home on her last day and off they went for 10 years traveling the states. They belonged to a square dance group and danced through their retirement. They were married 60 years at the time of Bob’s passing in 2012.
She is survived by her older sister Carmen Keene in Lake City Florida. Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Daughter Dianne and family, Kristopher (Ana), Anabella, Amelia. Janice (Brett), Alan. Daughter Elaine (Michael)and family, Carey (Greg), Evan. Michael (Jennifer), Mallory, Natalie. Son Robert and family, Chelsi (David), Landen (Lexey), Emily, Ayden, Bastien, Kasen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Ave., Gainesville. A rosary will be recited prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace Columbarium.
