Phyllis Rose Veilleux's Obituary
Phyllis Rose Veilleux, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday August 12, 2024, with her family by her side.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Phyllis was the eldest of four daughters of the late Oscar and Mary (Vogt) Zlatin. A 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School, now known as St. Thomas Aquinas High School, she continued her education at Broward Community College where she earned her Associate of Science Degrees in Computer Science and later in Nursing. Phyllis began her professional career in telecommunications before becoming a Registered Nurse, working primarily in critical care at Delray Medical Center for most of her nursing career.
Phyllis married her high school sweetheart John Veilleux in 1961, and together they raised their family in South Florida. Upon retirement, Phyllis and John relocated to Weaverville, North Carolina where they enjoyed a life full of adventure and many new friendships.
Throughout her life, Phyllis was a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and an adored aunt. Phyllis was extremely kind and generous, and showed tremendous love for her family and friends. She loved the outdoors, hiking with friends, wine-tasting, hosting happy hours and parties, and traveling. But above all, she loved spending time with her family. Phyllis had an enormous love and affection for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews. She was always very intentional about staying in touch with them and cherishing every opportunity to stay connected to them.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, John Sr., her children; John Jr., husband to Despina Goodhart, Michele Mims-Ahmed, wife of Faisal Ahmed, and Eric Veilleux, and her grandchildren; Brittany Mims-Glazer, Emily Mims and Daniel Veilleux, as well as her two great-grandchildren; Graham and Oliver, as well as her sisters Barbara McKenna and Diane Mangum. She was preceded in death by her son, James Veilleux and her sister, Nancy Dahlin.
Phyllis was adored by all who knew her. Her compassionate heart and boundless energy were admired and appreciated by everyone who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed by her entire family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 31st, at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, located at 5980 N. University Drive, Parkland Fl 33067. A reception for family and friends will follow the church service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Phyllis R. Veilleux may be made to The American Cancer Society.
