Phyllis Christine "Chris" Smither's Obituary
Phyllis Christine “Chris” Smither, 66, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, January 2, 2023, in the UF Jacksonville Medical Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Smither was born in Lorain, Ohio on March 10, 1956, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Koch. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Julock and Deborah Hall; and three brothers, John, Lawrence and Stephen Koch. She is survived by her son, Brian (Kym) Smither; three daughters, Christine (Chuck) Smither, Terri (Woodrow) Williams and Fariby Smither and sisters, Bonnie Koch and Katrina Oncale. Seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Chris, as she was known to her friends, worked for many years as a CNA, before beginning a long career with the University of Florida in the animal resources department. She loved to draw and to read, and above everything will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
