Mr. Philip William Michel's Obituary
Mr. Philip William Michel, 75, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in the Gainesville V. A. Medical Center.
Mr. Michel was born on October 20, 1943 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Frank and Mary Michel. As a young man, he joined the U. S. Navy, serving aboard the destroyer, U. S. S. Cony, participating in the blockade of Cuba during the missile crisis, and intercepted the Russian submarine, the B-59. After the Navy, Mr. Michel began a long career in the telecommunications industry, retiring in 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Michel in 2001, and by his six brothers and sisters.
He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Michel, of Gainesville.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 5 to 7 P. M., at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Downtown, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
