Paul Arthur Weinar's Obituary
Paul Arthur Weinar born on May 16, in Newark, NJ, was brought into his eternal home on March 24, 2025, in Gainesville, FL.
Paul lived a life of service and sacrifice to all those who had the pleasure of being in his sphere of influence. He loved his family and friends fiercely in his own private, quiet manner. His legacy will live on through his bloodline, his history of serving others and astonishing depth and breadth of relationships.
Paul is survived by the love of his life, Linda, and his sister Eileen (Jeff), his sons David (Jamie) and Michael (Noelle) and his beloved grandchildren (Gavin, McKinley and Wesley). He also leaves behind his niece Jennifer (Tyler), nephew Michael (Megan) and their children Olivia and Austin. Friends as close as family left behind include; George Tracey (Linda), Jann Slover (Wayne), Bobbie Poole (Stan), Ella Stark (Steve).
Although not by blood or childhood, Paul also leaves behind a legacy of his University Box Office (UBO) ‘kids.’ Paul mentored/supervised/educated hundreds of young, aspiring minds at the University of Florida while serving as the Ticket Director. He loved them all dearly and found great joy in keeping up with all their successes, near and far.
Paul is preceded in his Earthly death by his parents Arthur & Evelyn Weinar.
Paul and Linda met in high school in Plainview, NY and developed a close relationship with the “Three musketeers” (Linda, Jann and Carole Piecuch). The first date at their senior prom led to a life of love for over 55 years.
After graduation from Plainview Old Bethpage High School, Butler University came calling for the burgeoning couple. Late night free throw shooting, long jumping (HS record-holder) and high jumping (Also HS record-holder) led to graduation and a job at Clowes Hall as the ticket director in Indianapolis where David was born. A short shift to the University of Illinois brought another boy into the fold (Michael). Then the move to Gainesville and the Gators (beloved) which would be his long-term home.
A dedicated coach of youth sports for both boys in all the sports, he was a constant on the field or court. Always an accurate BP pitcher, he was in high demand at all times, at work, at home and at the diamond. As the boys aged, he reveled in their success and relationships (Jamie and Noelle). Proud father on each wedding day, but little compared to the joy he felt as he was promoted to Pops/Grandpa with the birth of his grandchildren. In recent years, Paul was pulled by God to begin his faith journey and in his twilight came to faith in Jesus.
Paul, the beach lover (Body surfing king), the committed New York Yankees fan, the ever-present husband and proud cat dad, will always be remembered as someone who put the loves of his life first, prior to even a synapse of selfish ambition. We can all learn from his quiet, but self-less manner.
For those in the Gainesville area, there will be a small informal gathering to watch his beloved Gators in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, March 27th from 6 to 10 pm at the Broadmoor Clubhouse (1223 NW 101st Street, Gainesville, FL 32606). Please feel free to stop in, eat and cheer on his Florida Gators.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place during the summer of 2025, please reach out if you would like to attend.
