Paul Randell Dunbar's Obituary
Paul Randell Dunbar, age 89 of Gainsville passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022. He was born on March 13, 1933 in Jamestown, Kentucky to Samuel and Verta Lela Long Dunbar.
Paul graduated from Temple Hill High School in 1953 in Temple Hill, Kentucky. Right out of high school, he joined the United States Navy and served until October 3, 1957. When he got out of the United States Navy, he joined the Glasgow Police Department. In 1968, he moved from Glasgow Kentucky to Gainesville, Florida and joined the Gainesville Police Department where he retired after 30 years as a lieutenant. He was a faithful member of North Central Baptist Church. Paul is survived by brothers Ralph and Lyle (Nora) Dunbar, sisters Arlene (Cecil) Bertram and Ruthann (Walter) Clark; 18 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe (Barbara) Dunbar and Carl (Anne) Dunbar, sister-in-law Jean Dunbar, a nephew Gary Jo Dunbar and a niece Debbie Toms.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at North Central Baptist Church, 8001 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32606, with Pastor Calvin Carr officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am. Paul will be buried in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, with military honors on January 9, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Central Baptist Church.
