Paul Luther's Obituary
Paul Luther died unexpectedly during the night on May 16 in his home in Gainesville, Florida at the age of 70. Paul is survived by his life partner, Lynn Blackmer; children, Angela Feiler, Joseph Luther, Sara Randall and Maggie Luther; siblings, Laura Dodd, Rich Luther, Will Luther, Helen Shullaw and Jodee Caldwell; and five grandchildren.
Paul was born December 21, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Wilbur Glenn Luther and Lillian Sippel Luther. Lillian died soon after he was born and he and his siblings were raised by stepmother, Grace Gurtner. Paul played football and track at Lisle High School, where he graduated in 1962. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Stout and later received his Architecture license. He worked as an architect for the duration of his career and continued to do project work up until the time of his passing. Paul worked at a number of firms in both Wisconsin and Florida, where he relocated in 1981. Most of his professional career was spent at Flad and Associates in Gainesville, FL, where he was known for his innovation and creativity.
Paul was a truly unique individual. To his work and his life, he brought his old-school ways and modern tastes. He was a benevolent brother, talented artist, “chick magnet” and loyal companion and dad. He brought his artistic talents to hospitalized children, for whom he carved pumpkins on Halloween. Close friends and family enjoyed him as a late-night sparring partner and confidant. He will be remembered for his hard work, kind and gentle spirit, strong convictions and penchant for speaking his mind. He will be missed by all, including his new puppy, Lucy.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 3:00 P. M. in the WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street. In Paul’s memory, please consider donations to a charity of your choice.
