Paul Edison Goard's Obituary
Paul Edison Goard, 85, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, April 10, 2017 in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mr. Goard was born on October 14, 1931 in Mount Airy, North Carolina, to the late Charles Reid and Ransa Lou Sadie Virginia Seraphina Poole Goard. As a young man, Mr. Goard joined the U. S. Army, and served as a medic in Korea. He later enlisted into the U. S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam, and retired in 1973. The Air Force had Mr. Goard move all around the United States and overseas, including Okinawa, Japan. Following his retirement, he moved with his family to Gainesville in 1978, working with electronics, and eventually beginning a career with TV20, until his retirement in 1995.
He was a Ham Radio operator and was of the Southern Baptist faith.
Mr. Goard was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Reid Goard, William Allen “Bill” Goad and Ernest Leon Goard and baby sister, Infant Girl Goard.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years Margaret Lillian Goard; two daughters, Prissilla Lynn (Lindley Marvin) Rogers, and Karen Reenee (Todd) Hester, all of Gainesville; three sisters, Mary Jo (Clayton) Simpson and Barbara Jean Johnson, both of Mt. Airy, NC and June Beamer, of Galax, VA; three grandchildren, Christopher Daniel Rogers, Sarah Elizabeth Hester and Henry Edward Hester, all of Gainesville.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 10:00 A. M. in Memorial Park West. The family will receive friends Friday, April 14, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:00 P. M., at the Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd St. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue, P. O.
