Patricia Bryan's Obituary
Patricia Bryan, a devoted mother and lifelong lover of animals, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025, at the age of 97.
Born in Ohio in 1927, Patricia lived through nearly a century of profound change. She spent her early years in Ohio during the Great Depression and her high school days in Georgia and Florida during the Second World War. She attended Florida Southern University, where she met her future husband, James I. Bryan. The two married in 1947 and welcomed their son, Jon, in 1954.
After the untimely passing of her husband in 1961, Patricia returned to school and earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Florida. She went on to teach at the university for several years, later balancing a rich professional life as a freelance ballet instructor and a town clerk at Micanopy Town Hall.
Patricia's great passion in life was horses. From her childhood pony, Peanuts, to the many horses she cared for over the years, she remained an avid rider well into her eighties.
She was a generous supporter of animal causes, donating to organizations such as The Audubon Society and Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue. In her memory, donations to these or other animal charities would be a meaningful tribute to her legacy.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. and Helen I. Fredericks; her husband, James I. Bryan; and her cousin, Carl Fredericks. She is survived by her beloved son, Jon F. Bryan; and cousins Frank Maenpa and Tina Carpenter of Ohio; Fran Ferriss of Long Island; Chris Fredericks of South Carolina; and Suzanne Fredericks of Vermont.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We who are left behind hold her memory dear and hope to meet again.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Micanopy Historical Cemetery.
