Ona Ruth Barnes' Obituary
Ona Ruth Barnes, age 77 of Gainesville, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016. She was born February 14, 1938 in McCracken, Kansas. Ona worked for Bendix Launch Corporation and worked directly with the original Apollo astronauts. After retirement she moved to Tuscon, AZ, where she met John. She and John were married and then later moved to Brandon, FL. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and visited Hawaii 22 times.
Ona is survived by her husband John E. Barnes, Jr., of Gainesville; children, Lorelei “Laurie” Porter (Gary) of Gainesville, John E. Barnes, III (Beth) of Myock, NC and Deborah Douglas (David Boss) of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Verna Dixon, brothers, David Dixon, Harold Dixon and Jim Dixon and six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorials to The Village Employee Christmas Fund, 8000 NW 27th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
