I know it's not much, but the first time meeting Nick was in basic we made some really good memories. The one good memory I have of Nick was at the grenade range. We phased up to blue phase which was the final phase of basic training that leads to our OSUT phases black and gold. We were in the same group with a mix of others from first second and third platoon. It was the one where we had to throw the simulation grenade into the mortar pit which was just a small trench with some sandbags and a 12 inch PVC pipe acting as the mortar tube. I went up and a couple of others did too, and we all were trying to make it into the PVC pipe and then Nick is next. He just walked up got into position looked at us and said, "Watch this I bet I can make it into the tube." Next thing we know his first throw bounces off the tube right off of the top and his second throw made it in perfectly. We were all surprised with our jaws dropped along with Staff Sergeant McDunn one of our drill sergeants. Other memories I have of him are just us training and him doing his absolute best and never quitting at what he did. He was always trying his hardest to best a lot of his peers and he did. Nick wasn't a bad person ever he was so caring and was always fun to be around, and he always made sure you had a smile on your face.
