Nesby Alvin (Al) Ellenburg's Obituary
Nesby Alvin (Al) Ellenburg, 77 of High Springs, passed away on April 19, 2018. Al was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 28, 1940 born to Nesby Alvin Ellenburg Sr. and Juanita Nash Ellenburg. During his early years he attended Evan P. Howell Elementary school and O’Keefe High School Class of 1958. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corp and served 6 years in the reserves. When discharged from the Marine Corp, Al returned home in 1959 and married Patricia Sue Byrd, daughter of Jerry Byrd and Edna Reed Byrd. He purchased a home in Marietta, Georgia where he resided with his wife and their three children Sonya, Karen and Keith. In 1973 he began a career with Badger Water Meter Company in Atlanta, Georgia and that same year was transferred to Gainesville, Florida as a salesman for many years. In 1980 his dream of having his own business came true Al and William (Bill) McLemore started the company Sunstate Meter & Supply, Inc. Al and Bill worked with their wives Judy McLemore and Sue.
He was a very successful businessman and continued working at Sunstate Meter & Supply a sole source distributor for Neptune Technology Group until his untimely passing. Sunstate Meter & Supply is a family business and Al worked with his wife Sue and children Sonya, Karen and Keith along with employees that are his work family that include Jay Meyers, Jeff Kimbrough, Mike Mobbs, Ricky Smith, Billy McLemore and Greg Parker. Al enjoyed playing golf and was a member at Gainesville Golf and Country Club for many years. He was a past president of the Buchholz Bobcat Quarterback Club. He was a Gator Booster for many years and enjoyed watching all Gator sports. He also had a passion for antique Classic cars. In 1998 he moved to High Springs, Florida and enjoyed mowing the hayfields on his John Deere Tractor, raising cattle and horses. He kept the farm pristine as he would pick up moss and limbs from the trees as soon as it hit the ground and from this he earned the nickname “Moss Man”
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sue Ellenburg; daughters, Sonya (Ricky) Smith and Karen Whittle (Greg Parker); son, Keith Ellenburg (Myra Leigh); grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Kasey Smith, Dalton Whittle, Dillon Whittle, Haliegh Hemond, Audrey Ellenburg and Emma Ellenburg; his three sisters, Yvonne (James) Stover, Mary Wallwin and Rebecca Ann (James) Young; sister-in-law, Jean Byrd and many nieces and nephews.
A private celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
