NELLIE HESTER WENTWORTH PITZER
Nellie Pitzer, formerly of Hawthorne and Chiefland, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Haven Hospice Center, Chiefland. She was born February 8, 1925, in Wauchula, Florida to William Edgar and Myrtle Frost Wentworth. She is survived by her daughter and caretaker, Susan Haines, Chiefland; daughter Patricia (Terry) Lindsey of Walkerton, VA; granddaughter and grandson and alternate caretakers Teresa and Tony Ruccione; granddaughter, Trisha (Roger) Henshaw of Walkerton, VA; grandson Travis (Elisa) Lindsey of Colonial Heights, VA, and 6 great-grandchildren: Breanne, Camryn, Cody, Tanner, Payton, and Tegan. Her sister-in-law, Nancy Rountree and brother-in-law, Don Rountree, and nieces, nephews, and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jane Rountree and brother, William "Bill" Wentworth.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Tampa, FL, attended Cumberland College (KY), Florida College of Women, now FSU, and the University of Florida. Her thirst for knowledge never wavered and she took courses that interested her which were wide and varied from art to foreign languages.

Nellie was a research chemist having worked at Duval County Health Department, Shands Teaching Hospital and Gainesville VA. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Hawthorne and First Baptist Church of Chiefland until she was unable to attend. She was a member of the Hawthorne Woman's Club and had been a member of the American Legion. She left a legacy of love, charity and compassion. Her love of learning was given to her children and continues through to her grandchildren. She was able to travel to Great Britain several times and in 2008 able to complete a childhood dream of seeing the Sistine Chapel in Rome, Italy. Her love of flowers continued until the end and her garden continues to grow.
She served the Lord everyday of her life and shared her love of Christ with everyone she met.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, 22027 S E 65th Ave, Hawthorne, FL 32640. The interment will follow in the Hawthorne Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME HAWTHORNE, U.S. 301 South at Lake Avenue.
