Nathan Vendeland's Obituary
Nathan Vendeland, 97, longtime resident of Gainesville, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 in the North Florida Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Vendeland was born in 1916 in Barberton, Ohio, son of the late Max and Libby Vendeland. He was married to his late wife Malvyn. Nate, as he was known, was a manager of a series of small discount department stores, rising from shoe salesman to supervisor of operations. Nate played golf for 60 years and was a past president of the men’s golf association at West End Golf Course. He came to Gainesville in 1979. In 1988, he married Florence Fox who was the love of his life and they shared 25 years of marriage and devotion to each other. Nate was a member of Hadassah Men’s Division and a member of B’nai Israel Congregation for thirty years.
Nate leaves his devoted wife, Florence; his son, Dr. Stewart Vendeland; daughter, Sue Brockhoff; Florence’s children, Sharon Fox Kemerer, Benjamin David Fox and Gary Michael Fox and a sister, Rose Poole. Eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00 P.M., in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with Rabbi David Kaiman officiating. Interment will follow in B’nai Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
