Nancy Lee Tucker's Obituary
Nancy Lee Tucker, 74, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Tucker was born on December 31, 1939 in Forest City, North Carolina to the late Alton and Grace Lewis Carroll. She graduated from Harris High School and soon after made her way to Gainesville. She worked for many years as an optical specialist, first working for Beckham Opticians and later for Optical Lab, for over 40 years, until her retirement in 2009. Mrs. Tucker was also preceded in death by a brother, A. P. Carroll. Nancy loved working with the public and had many friends in the community, was an outgoing and devoted friend to many, and enjoyed cross stitching and watching game shows on TV and the Gators. Nancy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2811 and the American Legion Haisley Lynch Post 16, of Gainesville. She was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church, Forest City, North Carolina.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas F. Tucker; step-sons, Thomas (Terri) Tucker of London, England, John (Michele) Tucker of Alachua, and Michael (Holly) Tucker, of Micanopy and a step-daughter, Mary Tucker, of Salt Springs. Her twin brother, Steve (Mozelle) Carroll, of Forest City, N.C, ten step grandchildren and one great grandson along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 4:00 P. M., at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 North Main Street, with a special time of remembrance to begin at 5:00, with Pastor Jim Riley of Grace Baptist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
