Nancy Carolyn Smith's Obituary
Nancy Carolyn Smith, age 74 of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 18, 2018 after a battle with cancer. She was born November 26, 1943 in Logan, West Virginia to Aulus and Irene Borders Steele.
Nancy was raised in West Virginia and moved to Florida when she was 20 years old, eventually settling in Gainesville with her husband Martin. She received her Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Florida and obtained a Master’s of Education from Nova Southeastern University. She taught at Gainesville High School for 30 years.
When Nancy wasn’t spending time with her children and grandchildren, she could be found underneath the pine trees in Georgia where she and her husband loved walking among nature.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years W. Martin Smith of Gainesville; children, William Erik Smith (Jocelyn), Michael Scot Smith, and William Brit Smith (Andrea); sister, Tillie Steele (Bob); brother, Donald Steele (Kay); and grandchildren, Anneliese, Caroline and Elaina.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Church, 2715 NW 39th Ave. with Bishop Ron Kuykendall officiating. Interment will follow in Countryside Cemetery, 10926 NW 39th Ave. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.
