Nancy Lee Rollins' Obituary
Mrs. Nancy Lee Rollins of High Springs died peacefully in her home on July 14, 2014.
She was born March 29, 1942 in Fort Myers, Florida to Irene Wilson Dilmore. She and her sister Barbara grew up in Fort Myers and remained lifelong Floridians. After high school days that included a place in the Singing Christmas Tree in Washington, DC, she attended bookkeeping school and worked at an insurance agency in Fort Myers. She met her husband, Walter H. “Chip” Rollins at a party and the two were married on October 22, 1963. She bore two sons, John in 1970 and Jason in 1973, both of whom are married and reside close by.
She is survived by her husband, Walter H. “Chip” Rollins; sons, John Rollins (Jennifer); Jason Rollins (Carrie); sister, Barbara Ann Heflin and four surviving grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Nancy put her shoulder to the wheel at every task, from building the family business, Rollins Automotive, Inc., to managing a franchise for Airborne Express, to raising her sons and participating in their school and sports activities. She made hundreds of friends along the way, dispensed volumes of wisdom to many who called her “Mom”, offered a hand in times of trouble, and most importantly, she never let anyone down. She was a role model who educated others by setting an example of honesty, follow-through, and dedication to both results and relationships. If that wasn’t enough, she found animals irresistible and cared for many dogs and cats over the years.
Nancy was surrounded by her husband of 50 years, her family and her best friends as she fought cancer over the past year.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143 Street, with Chaplain Phil Greene officiating. She will be laid to rest in High Springs. The family request donations to the Alachua County Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
