Nancy Ann Notley McMillin's Obituary
Nancy Ann Notley McMillin passed peacefully into the arms of God in the early morning Saturday August 12, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Bensonville Illinois to Mary and Lyle Notley May 31,1934, Nancy was raised in western Indiana. While attending Indiana State University and Delta Gamma sorority, she met and married Marvin McMillin, beginning a love affair that would span over 68 years together.
As a young wife, Nancy was a devoted mother and helpmate as Marvin established his career. After expanding the family to include five children, Nancy returned to the University of Florida to earn her Bachelor’s degree In Elementary Education. Her professional career in education was for more than 20 years ranging in parenting classes to early childhood education, kindergarten and middle school language arts. She retired from Fort Clarke Middle School in June 1991 and the memory of the humor and storytelling she wove into her instruction is still fondly recalled by students and faculty.
Nancy was a generous servant of God and demonstrated her faith constantly through work with the Stephen’s Ministry, Methodist Women, and Emmaus Group, as well as a term serving as the Chair on the Administrative Board at Trinity United Methodist Church. Together with Marvin they were stalwart members and teachers of the Fisherman Sunday School class for decades, and could always be relied upon to help anyone in need in the church or community. She exemplified the scripture Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your God in heaven.”
Nancy was preceded in death by grandson Bryon McMillin and great-grandchild Jackson Jerolaman. She is survived by her husband Marvin, daughters Mary, Julie, Amy (David), Jenny, and son Tom, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren Amy Rose and Alex Pearson, Jody Jerolaman, Brett, Savannah, Cameron, Bailey, and Merritt McMillin, Moriah, Nicholas, and Alexander Noegel, and Carsyn Kueber.
All who knew and loved Nancy are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Thursday August 17, 2023, at Trinity United Methodist Church, at 3:00 pm with a reception to follow. The service will be officiated by Reverend Catherine Fluck-Price and Reverend Steven Price.
