Mrs. Jean Riggan Mitchell's Obituary
Mrs. Jean Riggan Mitchell, 85, longtime resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Henderson, North Carolina on November 14, 1938, to the late Robert and Beulah Riggan. She had worked for many years in Roanoke, Virgnia as a secretary for an advertising agency. Mrs. Mitchell came to Gainesville in 1980 and began working as a teacher’s aide for many years at Littlewood Elementary School. She loved working with children and working in her flower garden and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thom Elliott Mitchell; by one son, David Thom Mitchell, of Portland, OR; and one nephew, Michael Riggan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville; and a private interment will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, in Henderson, North Carolina at a later date.
