Morgan "Chip" Douglas Hensgen, II's Obituary
Morgan Douglas Hensgen II,70, lovingly known as “Chip,” passed away at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength and spirited living. He was born on December 21, 1955, in Mineral Wells, Texas, son to Morgan Douglas Hensgen I and Bobbie Jean (Thomas) Hensgen. Chip carried with him the warmth and values of his roots throughout his life. His nickname, given to him by his father, reflected exactly who he was – a true “chip off the old block.”
Upon beginning his teens, Chip moved with his family to Port Charlotte, Florida, where he attended Charlotte High School. There, he made a name for himself as the starting quarterback for the Fighting Tarpons, leading his team to many memorable victories and earning the respect of teammates, classmates, and the community.
Following high school, Chip pursued a higher education at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His professional life was marked by dedication and versatility. He began his career managing the U-Save Grocery Store, but his true calling emerged in his work as a mental health counselor. Chip became a passionate advocate for women’s rights, educator, and trainer for individuals with disabilities, devoting himself to improving the lives of others and making a lasting impact in his field. He was an incredibly strong and disciplined man.
Known for his big personality, sense of humor, with an infectious laugh, strong faith and a generous spirit, Chip was cherished by family, friends and coworkers alike. He was often described as “one of the good guys” – a man who showed up for others, offered kindness freely, and lived with authenticity, always energizing any room he was in.
Chip had a deep love for sports, especially football, which he followed with enthusiasm each season. One of his greatest joys was participating in the family’s beloved Cutthroat Family Football League every Sunday, where laughter, competition, and togetherness were always in abundance. His love for great music was just as strong.
Chip and his family were especially grateful for the love and care shown by Mike and Chrissy Holloway and their family. It brought great comfort to know that they were always there for him – caring for him, supporting him, and loving him as one of their own. Their presence meant so much and will forever hod a special place in Chip’s heart, as well as in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his two daughters Rachel Russell of Mesa, AZ, and Ashley Hensgen Caldwell (Josh) of Thorton, CO, five grandchildren, Taylor Ochoa (Nelson), Tiffany Anderson (Clifford), Hunter Russell, Aleya Zimmerman, Gertrude Wolf, five great-grandchildren Eli Ochoa, Ezekiel Ochoa, Josie Andersen, Lilly Andersen, and Clifford Andersen, sisters Kelly Hensgen (Kim), Shana Hensgen Marshall (Bob), nephews Zachary Marshall (Rebecca), Nicholas Marshall (Gina), and great-niece/nephews (Madelyn, Beckett, Beau, Briggs).
Above all, Chip lived life fully and loved deeply. His heart was as big as his presence and his legacy will live on in countless lives he touched.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
At Chip’s request there will be no funeral service, but he would want everyone to dance rock out and celebrate life. We love and miss him very much. May God bless you in Heaven and may you live forever in Paradise Chip.
