Michelle Waynette "Mickie" Smiley's Obituary
Michelle Waynette "Mickie" Smiley, born June 16, 1958 in Dublin, Georgia, passed away in Gainesville, Florida, on June 1, 2018. Mickie was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. She loved cats and gardening and was skilled at many crafts, such as crochet, needlepoint and drawing. She was a voracious reader. She loved to cook and would often call a loved one or friend to ask about a recipe. She loved being on and in the water.
Mickie was an automotive title clerk for many years in Gainesville. and for a short time in Ocala. She was a member of the Buchholz High School Class of 1976. She maintained many friendships in her years in this area, including those from school and various workplaces, such as a steak house and Paul West Ford.
Mickie was a very generous woman and even if she did not have much, she would gladly share it with others. She had an infectious laugh, a beaming smile and a beautiful spirit.
Mickie is survived by her mother, Tiger Harper, of Gainesville; daughter, Sarah Griffis and her husband Justin and their children Max and Presley, of Saint Marys, Georgia: sister, Susan Smiley-Height and her husband Alan Height, of Flemington; brother, Richard Smiley and his wife Nancy and son Noah, of Archer; half-brothers Sonny Cole and family of Florida, and Ottis Smiley Jr. of Colorado; as well as many other family members and friends.
A memorial service for Mickie will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the chapel at Grace United Methodist at Fort Clarke, 9325 W. Newberry Road, Gainesville, with a re¬ception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any Alcoholics Anonymous group or organization to benefit women, children or animals.
