Michael (Mike) David Gaylord's Obituary
Michael (Mike) David Gaylord, born November 11, 1961 in Dawson, Georgia, died May 25, 2024, at home in Archer, FL.
Mike moved to High Springs with his family in 1971. Following his Dad’s footsteps, he started working in the telephone business in his junior year and remained for 46 years, retiring in November, 2023. He counted the women and men he worked with as his family. Mike married Margaret Garrahan in 1989. They just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary, although they began dating in 1978. Mike loved hunting and fishing and could never get enough of looking for deer and arrowheads. He did less of those things when his sons Michael and Matthew were born as they became the center of his world. He loved the Gators and followed all the teams. He liked it best when he was watching the Gators play with his family and his besties, the Hoodies.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Kaye Gaylord and his brother, Mark. Mike is survived by his wife, Margaret, his sons Michael and Matthew, his sister Sandi, sister-in-law Tammy, Phoebe and Jack and many nieces and nephews.
Burial and Celebration of Life will be at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery on Friday, May31st at 10:00 am. For those attending, please dress casually as the ceremony will be outside and will be HOT! Mike didn’t dress up and wouldn’t expect you to do so. A reception will follow at the Herlong Mansion in Micanopy, featuring Mike's favorite food, Pearl's BBQ. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Helping Hands Rescue, the humane society or SHANDS Cardiac Program in his memory.
