Michael Alan Fowler's Obituary
Michael Alan Fowler, 58, passed away on June 8, 2025, in Gainesville, FL. He was born on June 28, 1966, in Spartanburg, SC, to Carroll and Katherine Knox Fowler and was raised in Morristown, TN.
Michael attended Morristown West High School before earning his bachelor's degree in finance from Wofford College in 1988. He continued his education at Mercer University, obtaining his master's degree, and later pursued his medical degree at St. George's University School of Medicine. He then completed his residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
Prior to joining the UF Health Department of Anesthesiology College of Medicine in 2021, Michael was an anesthesiologist and associate professor in VCU's Transplant Anesthesia Division. He was a highly regarded anesthesiologist, educator, and mentor. Michael was passionate about performing liver transplants, mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, and providing compassionate care to his patients. His commitment to medicine and education left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of learning from or being treated by him.
Michael loved spending time with his family, whether that was traveling to new countries or visiting the Disney theme parks. He also enjoyed golfing with friends, cheering for the Aston Martin Formula 1 racing team, barbecuing, and sipping a good scotch.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of nearly 28 years, Julie; his son, Noah, and daughter, Mary; his brothers, Paul (Susan) and David (Lolly); his sister, Katherine (Michael); and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded by his parents, Carroll and Katherine Knox Fowler.
A private Celebration of Life in Michael's honor will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025.
