Meridean Sprecher's Obituary
Meridean Sprecher passed away peacefully at Magnolia Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville, Florida on August 4, 2024, with her family by her side. She was 83 years old. Meridean was a beautiful, loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Over the past 15 years, she battled the progression of Parkinson’s disease. Her complicated medical battles have come to a close and we know she is safe in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
The daughter of John and Carolina Hummel, Meridean was the youngest and last surviving sibling of nine. She was born January 8, 1941 in Mott, where she was raised and attended Mott elementary and high school. She developed a love for music early in life participating in almost all musical groups and choirs throughout her high school years. She loved singing in choirs, quartets, trios and solos both in school and in church. She played trumpet in the band and was in a trumpet trio. She played piano and the organ at Zoar Congregational Church through her high school years and then again for almost 20 years. Meridean attended Concordia College for one year, then married Gary Sprecher on July 10, 1960. Together, they began farming and ranching. In 1961, Kari was born, and 13 months later Judith “Judy” was born.
Meridean was a homemaker and bookkeeper for their farming, ranching, trucking business, as well as for Sprecher Premium Pork sales of breeding stock and confinement buildings. She taught Sunday school for several years, gave piano lessons, and was active in Jaycees, Study Club and Lions Club. Meridean volunteered at the Good Samaritan Home for sing- a-longs, Meals on Wheels and Mott Gallery of History and Art. She and Gary loved fishing, camping, and traveling the country in their motorhome. They spent 20 winters in Florida. She loved her family and didn’t want to leave them. She treasured her friends back home, but also had dear friends across the country and came to love her fellow residents in her assisted living facility in Gainesville.
Meridean is survived by 2 daughters, Kari (Jim Ferguson) Sprecher, Judy (Steve) Willis, two grandchildren Leah (Chad) Foster, Eric (Katie) Braseth, and three great grandchildren, Addison and Aubrey Braseth and Evan Foster, one sister-in-law Carol Hummel, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by husband Gary, parents John and Carolina Hummel, six brothers Willie Forsch, Johnny (Claudia), Jakie (Esther), Alvin (Corrine), Edwin (Carol), Art (Marilyn) Hummel, 2 sisters, Hilda (Albert) Grueble, Eleanor (Bob) Johnson.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Zoar Congregational Church in Mott, ND, on Saturday, August 17th at 10:30am. Lunch will be served at the church after she is laid to rest at the Sunny Slope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
