Mattie Agatha Durham's Obituary
Mattie Agatha Durham, age 85 of Gainesville, Florida passed away Friday, May 1, 2020. She was born May 21, 1934 in Florala, Florida to Ira D. and Lula Beatrice Morrison Odom.
She graduated from Miami High School where she played the clarinet in the Marching Band. In 1952 she went to Havana, Cuba with the band and recalled fondly the memories.
She married her husband, Thomas E. Durham on August 7, 1960. Agatha worked for AT&T in Miami and retired after 33 years. After retirement Thomas and Agatha moved to Lake City, FL and then later she moved to The Village in Gainesville. She loved travelling, gardening, she enjoyed walking and she loved animals.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Thomas; her siblings, Eloise, Elzara and Ira.
Survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Durham (Ken Sallot) of Gainesville.
A service will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 404 North Main Street with Rabbi Michael Joseph officiating. She will be buried with her husband in Flagler Memorial Park in Miami, FL. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606 or Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, 325 NW 10th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601. A livestream link will be posted in this obituary before the service.
