Mary S Walker's Obituary
Mary S Walker passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, at Haven Hospice surrounded by loved ones. She was 91 years old and a Gainesville resident since 1959.
Mary was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the sixth of eight children born to John W and Lupreal C Summerhays. She graduated from East High School in 1949 and attended the University of Utah.
Mary was the center of our family. All the moments of warmth and laughter, the traditions and memories we will carry with us for the rest of our lives, were created by her unwavering devotion and unselfish love. She was also a friend to many, a community volunteer, a dedicated bridge partner and an avid tennis player. And even towards the very end of her life, she could be found outside gardening and watering her flowers; she was very proud of the beauty she created there. In every way, her life was full.
Mary was predeceased by two wonderful husbands, Dr Harry L Walker and Dr Grant
Steele. She is survived by her three children, Steven Walker, Bryan Walker, both of
Gainesville, and Joni Walker Lowther (Rex) of Palm Bay; her two grandchildren, Britte Lowther of Maitland and Grant Lowther (Cassondra) of Gainesville; her two greatgrandchildren, Gwendolyn and Julian Lowther of Gainesville and stepdaughters Jackie Hoffman, Carol Steele and Holly King of Colorado.
Mary has requested no memorial service. She will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery in Gainesville with a family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90 Blvd, Gainesville, FL, 32606.
