Mary Carmen Miller's Obituary
Mary Carmen Miller, 93, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Gainesville, Florida. Born on July 12, 1931, in Miami, Florida, to Robert C. Moss and Alleen Gardner Moss, Mary lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family.
After graduating from Miami Senior High School in 1949, Mary married the love of her life, Harry LeRoy Miller Sr., and together they built a life centered around family, faith, and unwavering love. She dedicated herself to homemaking and nurturing those around her, always ensuring that her home was a place of warmth and welcome.
She and Harry eventually retired to Cedar Key, Florida, where she cherished spending time with her grandchildren, especially taking them fishing. Their son, Roy, and daughter-in-law, Susan, played a pivotal role in helping them build their home there. After her husband's passing, Mary moved to Gainesville, where she lived with her daughter, Bonnie, and became an active member of Grace Methodist Church. She found joy in crafting, teaching Sunday School alongside Bonnie, and sharing her faith with others. Her hands were always busy creating something beautiful.
Mary was also a dedicated member of Grace at Fort Clarke, where she participated in the Crafty Ladies group. Through this group, she formed lasting friendships, shared her passion for creativity, and helped raise money for charitable causes.
Affectionately known as "Mema," Mary took great pride in her family. Her two children were a blessing from God, and she treasured her seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, each one a source of immense pride and joy. Mema’s love and generosity extended beyond her own family—she welcomed friends and loved ones into her home with open arms, becoming a beloved grandmother figure to many.
Mary is survived by her son, Harry "Roy" LeRoy Miller Jr., and his wife, Susan D. Miller; her grandchildren Julie M. Moxley (John), Natalie S. Bostic (Don), Jillyan M. Beverly (the late Terry), Matthew Miller (Jolene), Jennifer M. Brookins (Robert), Justin McCullors (Nichole), and Lisa A. Brown (Zak); and her great-grandchildren Ellie, Matthew, Josie, Donovan, Lula, Jackson, Ruby, Allie, Daphne, Hank, Harrison, Andy, and Anna. She is also survived by her sister, Donna M. Duclo, and brother-in-law, Duke Duclo and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry LeRoy Miller Sr., her daughter, Bonnie Sue Underwood, and her son-in-law, Donald A. Underwood. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. Moss and Alleen Gardner Moss, and her sisters, Barbara Moss and Kathleen Shrake.
Mary’s legacy is one of deep love for her family and steadfast faith. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, providing comfort and inspiration for generations to come.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace at Fort Clarke on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crafty Ladies at Grace at Fort Clarke in Mary’s honor.
