Mary Reed Houk's Obituary
Mary Nan Reed (Dolly) Houk, 89, formerly of Gainesville, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Mrs. Houk was born on January 13, 1925 in Lewisburg, Tennessee to the late Otey and Dulcie Reed. She was a graduate of Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She worked at what is now known as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory during World War II. Mrs. Houk lived in Nashville, Tennessee, for many years before moving to Gainesville in 1977.
She was married for 61 years to the late William Erskin Houk, also of Gainesville. She is survived by sons, Dr. Richard W. Houk (Karen) of Little Rock, D. Reed Houk (Teresa) of Nashville, and Douglas Scott Houk of Gainesville; grandchildren, Jonathan Houk (Spring) of Little Rock, Bethany Houk of Little Rock, David Houk (Tabitha) of Little Rock, Christopher Houk (Mandi) of Little Rock, Katie Houk of Little Rock, Melody Park (Elijah) of Little Rock, Lauren Clay (Wesley) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Davis Houk of Nashville; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. in Countryside Cemetery, 10926 NW 39th Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The ARC of Alachua County, 3303 NW 83rd St., Gainesville, FL 32606.
