Mary Hope (Brower) Windham's Obituary
Mary Hope (Brower) Windham left her earthly body to join her Savior in heaven on Monday, November 6, 2023. Mary was born a leap year baby on February 29, 1944 in Gainesville, FL, the sixth of nine children. She is survived by her loving husband (Jim) of 56 years; her daughters, Sherry Hansen (Chris), of Robinson, TX; and, Charla Kalnins (Glenn), of Gurley, AL; six grandchildren, Emma Hansen, Anna Hansen, Sterling Kalnins, Olivia Hansen, Stone Kalnins, and Ava Hansen; siblings Joy Knight, John Brower, and Sara Painter.
She was preceded in death by parents, Hobart and Norma Brower; siblings Howard Brower, Dale Brower, Kay White, Chuck Brower, and Margie Palmer.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked at the University of Florida in the Department of English and the Florida Museum of Natural History for 40 years. Mary was the last charter member of Westwood Hills Church of God attending the church, from its founding in 1967 until her passing. Mary loved her church family and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Children’s Church for many years. Additionally, she cared for children in the church nursery and sang in the choir. She served as president in the local chapter of Aglow International Ministry for 14 years. Mary was an avid gardener, a talented seamstress, and an amazing cook. Her gift of hospitality was unmatched. And, Mary was one of the most loving and giving people one could ever meet. She had a beautiful heart, encapsulating the characteristics of both Mary and Martha of the Bible, as she not only actively served others, but absorbed and meditated on the words of Jesus. Mary will be remembered as a selfless woman, a mighty prayer warrior with a kind and pure heart, who handled everything with grace and faith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00PM at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd Street, Newberry, FL 32669
