Mary Elizabeth Hackett's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Hackett, 92 years old, died peacefully on February 28, 2025. She was born in Biddeford, Maine, on January 13, 1933, to the late Albion and Elizabeth Benton. Mary graduated from Dana Hall School, Wellesley, Massachusetts. She received her BA from Duke University in 1954 and was married to her high school sweetheart, Raymond Hackett MD, for 61 years. Mary is survived by two sons, Bruce and wife Kimberly of Nashville, TN, Wayne and Jennifer of Gainesville, FL, and daughter, Laura Kita (nee Hackett) and husband Paul (deceased) of Palm Coast, FL, and four grandchildren, Chris, Jessica, Neal, and Eric, and six great grandchildren, Cohen, Archer, Benton, Joel, Henry, and Ellis, and beloved pets, Abigail and Emma.
Mary served as a Pink Lady, A Meals on Wheels volunteer, served on the Altar Guild, and was a member of St. Andrews Church for many years, where she regularly attended Nita Nell’s women’s bible study group. Mary loved animals and enjoyed taking her beautiful Corgi to visit the elderly in local homes. She loved the arts, reading, history, cross word puzzles, home decorating, and collecting plants. She and Raymond traveled the world, but cherished spending time in their beloved Highlands, NC. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on March 8, 2025, at 2 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Church, 2715 NW 39th Avenue, with Bishop Ron Kuykendall officiating.
