Mary Holton Foster's Obituary
Mary Holton Foster passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 98 years old. She was born on April 19, 1920 to Celia & Jess Holton. She was a life-long resident of Alachua County, an Atlanta Braves fan and a devoted grandmother. She began working for the City of Gainesville in 1949 and worked her way up. In 1968, she was promoted to Supervisor of Utilities and Collections. With 25 years of service, she retired from the City of Gainesville in 1974.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Allen Foster, Sr.; her son, Gerald Allen Foster, Jr.; her mother, Celia Holton; her father, Jess Holton; her grandchildren, Kimberly Elizabeth Foster and Robert Allen Foster; her brothers, Helmar Holton, Herbert Holton and Teaford “Blue” Holton; her sisters, Hattie Cousins and Donnie Mooney; and her daughter-in-law, Lovetta Foster.
She is survived by her son, William Albert Foster (Lisa) of Citra; three grandchildren, Wendy Foster-Hammock of Gainesville, Heather Foster-Lawton (Richard) of Gainesville, and Mariam Martin of Gainesville; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Holton (Geneva) of Orlando, Tom Holton (Mary) of Ocala and Robert Holton (Marge) of Jacksonville Beach; a daughter-in-law, Effie Foster of Williston and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 404 N Main Street, Gainesville. Interment will follow in Memorial Park East. The family will receive friends Friday, June 15, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Please no flowers.
