Mary H. Carlisle's Obituary
Mary H. Carlisle died Thursday, June 3rd, 2021, in Gainesville, Florida at the age of 88. Mary was born January 15th, 1933, in Walton County, Florida, and is preceded in death by her husband Elbert Carlisle, father A. C. (Nick) Hulion, mother Bessie Hulion, brother Elbert Hulion, sisters Milbra Richardson and Ruby Blackwell, great-granddaughter Vylah Matheny, and 2nd husband Robert Jones.
Mary is survived by her two sons Lester (Kathy) Carlisle and Roy (Ellen) Carlisle, Grandsons Kyle and Cory Carlisle, Granddaughter Melissa Carlisle, and Great Granddaughters Ember, Eily, Arden, and Livi Matheny, and her sister Sabra Weeks, and many generations of extended family.
Mary was raised in the panhandle of West Florida prior to her parents relocating to Gainesville, Florida. Mary was a graduate of Gainesville High School in 1951. She met her future 1st husband (Elbert) while taking public transportation to school. Elbert was the bus driver.
Mary and Elbert were married on August 25th, 1951. They were together for 48 years but sadly Elbert passed away just a couple of days after their 48th year anniversary.
Mary married her 2nd husband, Robert Jones in 2005. They had a short time together before Robert got ill and passed away.
Mary had many different careers throughout the years. She was a homemaker, caregiver to her parents, bookkeeper, keycard punch operator, City Clerk for the City of Newberry, Florida, but her longest period of employment was with the Alachua County School System. She started at Ft. Clarke Middle School as the secretary for the principal when the school first opened. She later transferred and worked for the principal of the Lincoln Middle School up to her retirement. Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society for several years.
Friends and Family are welcome to attend a viewing on Monday, June 7th, 2021, at Williams-Thomas Westarea Funeral Home located at 823 NW 143rd St (County Road 241 North) Gainesville/Newberry Florida between 5 and 7 pm.
Services for Mary will be held the following day, Tuesday, June 8th, 2021, in the chapel of the Williams-Thomas Westarea Funeral Home at 10 am. Following the service, Mary will be buried at the Countryside Cemetery located at 10926 NW 39th Ave.
In lieu of flowers – It was Mary’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of a donation to E.T. York Haven Hospice.
