I have just learned of the passing of Mrs. Barrow (July 7, 2023). I met her while working with her son William Richmond Barrow. Without exception, she was always gracious and welcoming, a devoted wife and mother. As I learned of her many accomplishments in historic preservation, my respect and admiration for her increased as I knew she was equally devoted to her husband and each of her children. When William Barrow and I performed, she was often in the audience. In the early years of his career, she organized a reception and concert in Gainesville after we released a recording of jazz standards. Mrs. Barrow welcomed me into her home and was always kind. William moved on to a successful career with prominent, nationally and internationally known musicians. I'm sure he attributes much of his success to his parents, Dr. And Mrs. Barrow. My prayers are with Mrs. Barrow's family. She was a very special lady.
