Martha "Muffy" Taylor Harmon's Obituary
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Martha “Muffy” Harmon, FNP-BC, passed away from an unrecoverable stroke at the age of 68 surrounded by family on May 12, 2022, in Gainesville, Florida. She selflessly blessed others and continued to save lives, with the gift of life through organ donation and research in accordance with her wishes.
Martha Harmon was born February 27, 1954, in Sioux City, Iowa to the late Dorothy “Barbara” Eales and Eugene Whitney Taylor.
Martha moved to St. Petersburg at the age of five with her family, where she attended Seminole High School and St. Petersburg Jr. College. In 1973 she met the love of her life, Michael. They had many adventures and married on September 23, 1975, settling down in North Central Florida. Charity and Justin came along in the early 1980s, and the family proceeded to build a home, starting with an addition to the mobile home and then a beautiful ranch-style home on the property. As the kids graduated high school and pursued their own careers, the property gained a pool and an expansive garden/landscaping. Martha and Michael enjoyed traveling, both to Greece in 2007 and all across the US with their Airstream, but their favorite destination was visiting with the grandbabies in Jacksonville.
Martha became a registered nurse with the state of Florida in 1978 and later completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the University of Florida in 2006, where she earned her Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) license. She worked diligently for the community patients of Chiefland Medical Center as their primary care practitioner for 15+ years. She found her greatest joys in spending time with her loving family, RV camping, reading, swimming, and avid gardening of flowers, plants, and vegetables. She took faith and comfort in the Lord and lived her life with the greatest of morality, love, and dedication.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael Page Harmon of Fanning Springs, FL, daughter Charity Susan Greenlee Harmon of Pine Grove, PA, son Justin Page Harmon and his wife Kimberly Ayn Betz, and two grandchildren, Jack and Zoe Harmon, of Jacksonville, FL and her brother Stanley Eales Taylor of Banner Elk, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Steven Eales Taylor of St. Petersburg, FL.
Memorial services to honor Martha’s extraordinary life will be held in mid-June, 2022. (specific details of the service will be communicated via Facebook Group Martha Harmon Tribute). In lieu of flowers and gifts please consider donations in Martha’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, for which she was passionate. Friends and family of Martha are encouraged to leave memories, pictures, and stories of their time with Martha on the FB.
