Mark E. Morchel's Obituary
Mark E. Morchel – a longtime public servant in New Jersey — peacefully died in his sleep in his adopted home of Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. He was 69.
An attorney by day and outsider artist by night, Mark served for 25 years in Hudson County government, making it through multiple administrations since the early 1990s. He was an alumnus of Seton Hall Law School, the class of 1985, and completed his undergraduate studies at Saint Peter’s College after attending Saint Peter’s Prep.
A devoted husband to his wife, Maureen, of 42 years, Mark would lovingly refer to her as “my first wife.” While raising his four daughters in Kearny, NJ, the proud Jersey City native spent countless hours with the former local theater group The Attic Ensemble, putting on dozens of performances in Jersey City, which most recently operated out of the Barrow Mansion.
He is survived by his wife, his beloved dog, Rosie, four daughters; Colleen, Elizabeth, Laura and Grace; their husbands; Kevin, Tony, Craig and Anthony, respectively, and his five grandchildren.
A remembrance of life service will be held at Loosey’s in Gainesville between 5 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 12. Services will be held in New Jersey with details to be announced in days to come. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Foundation, https://www.parkinson.org/. or American Diabetes Association, https://diabetes.org/.
