Marjorie Rasmussen Decker's Obituary
Marjorie Rasmussen Decker, 93, loving wife,mother,grandmother,great-grandmother and friend went to her heavenly reward on December 2, 2014. She died peacefully at the North Florida Specialty Care Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Marge was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on December 22, 1920 to Niels and Alma Rasmussen.
Marge met and married her best friend and soul mate, Clifford J. Decker in 1941. They had a lively engagement at a Bluebird campout where Marge counseled and mentored many young girls. The two had a wonderful marriage of 49 years and were blessed with three sons.
As Cliff pursued a career in engineering and Physical Plant Management they lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Morgantown, West Virginia, Stonybrook, New York and moved to Gainesville, FL in 1973.
Marge worked in banking while Cliff served in the Navy in World War II. She did reception work at different doctors offices while raising three sons with Cliff. After moving to Gainesville, Marge worked at the Gainesville Medical Group for many years. She was an active member in the Gainesville Women’s Club and a member of the Mimosa Circle in the Gainesville Garden Club. She was also an excellent cook, seamstress and an accomplished wildflower watercolor artist.
Marge loved the Lord and served Him diligently at the First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville for many years. She had a special gift of hospitality and opened her heart and her home to many people. Surely she ministered to angels unaware!
Marge treasured spending time with her husband, her sons and their families. She encouraged and nurtured a strong
family bond which cannot be broken.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford J. Decker. She is survived by three sons; Paul C. Decker (Susan), Clifford J. Decker (Pam), Brian C. Decker (Kathy); nine grandchildren; John Decker (Yoshia), Andrew Decker (Stephanie) Scott Decker (Teela), Sarah Piner (Jim), Christin Petroski (Jake), Stephen, Chrissy, Marjie and Beth Decker and nine great-grandchildren; Bailey, Paul and Ben Piner, Ava and Ellie Petroski, Kai, Noah,Logan and Grace Decker.
A memorial service will be held Friday, January 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in First Presbyterian Church. A reception will precede the service, 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at the church.
