Marilyn Louise Walton's Obituary
Marilyn Louise Miers was born April 9, 1926 in Elmira, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Frances Miers. She was of Dutch German decent with her family first immigrating to America in 1652.
Marilyn enjoyed a good family life in Upstate New York. She had a younger brother, Gene, deceased, and an older sister, Pat Blair who lives in New York.
Marilyn graduated from Elmira High School in 1944. She then attended nursing school at Ogden Memorial Hospital as part of the Cadet Nursing Corp during WWII. After completion of nursing school she married Richard Saunders and they raised three children, Larry, Kathy, and Karen. The children preceded her in death from cystic fibrosis during their childhood years. After the loss of her husband and children, she practiced nursing at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Peyton Walton. In the early 1970s Peyton and Marilyn left Tampa General and moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where Peyton was Professor Emeritus of Surgery at LSU Medical School. Marilyn was a supportive and active home maker. She enjoyed entertaining, and hosted many parties for LSU’s General Surgery residents at her home in Carencro, LA.
Marilyn and Peyton retired to Del Rio, Texas in 1989, where they built a home together along the beautiful Devil’s River. There they enjoyed 9 years together and established the Devil’s River Bird Farm, enjoying friends and family.
In 1996 they moved to Archer, Florida, birthplace of Peyton, and lived there until Peyton’s death in 2007. Marilyn moved to Williston, Florida, where she passed into the arms of her Savior on October 17, 2015.
Marilyn and Peyton were dedicated Christians and faithful members of Community Presbyterian PCA Church in McIntosh, Florida. Her step children Tom and Jane Walton reside in Murfreesboro, TN.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street, with Rev. Scott A. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Archer, Florida. A reception will be held following the burial at Community Presbyterian PCA Church, 20098 N US Highway 441, McIntosh, FL 32664. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
