Marie Wideman's Obituary
Marie Wideman, 101, of Orlando, FL passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 10, 1923, in St. Petersburg, FL to Reese and Eva Grey Coston. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Rudy Wideman in 1999, and her brother, Herb Coston in 2022. She is survived by three children, Janet, Carol, and Wayne, as well as 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She graduated from St. Petersburg Community college and worked most of her life as an accountant for the VA Hospital Bay Pines, St. Petersburg, FL.
Family was her highest priority. For many years, she and Rudy prepared a Saturday night family dinner and sent leftovers home with each of their children. Sunday morning was spent at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville. She loved to travel and visited Northwestern Canada, China, Europe, the Holy Land and Greece, plus trips in the U.S. to Maine, the Smokey Mountains, the Grand Canyon and other National Parks. She and Rudy purchased property in Three Rivers Estates on the Santa Fe River. Family was always welcome. Many generations enjoyed floating from Ichetucknee Springs to the Santa Fe River, fishing and braving the rope swing over the river. She will be missed but she leaves behind many wonderful memories.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10:00AM at Williams-Thomas Westarea Funeral Home 823 NW 143rd St., Newberry, FL. Entombment will follow at Forest Meadows Central Cemetery at 11:00AM, 4100 NW 39th Ave., Gainesville, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association (www.stroke.org).
