Marie Amelie Hofstetter's Obituary
Marie Amelie Hofstetter, know to her family as Nani, 94, of Gainesville, Florida, died peacefully on Tuesday, December, 22, 2015, at her home.
Mrs. Hofstetter was born on June 12, 1921 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to the late Harold and Maria Amelia Graham. She went to visit her brother in Colombia in 1944, fell in the love with the country and decided to stay. In Colombia she met her husband, Mr. Harold Hofstetter, known to his friends as “Shorty”. They remained in Colombia for many years, raising their family until coming to Florida in 1976, following the death of their daughter, Miryam. They settled in Gainesville in 1983 where she attended Holy Faith Catholic Church. Nani loved to read and solving crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006 and by a granddaughter, Ana Margarita Hofstetter in 2005.
She is survived by one son, Michael (Melody) Hofstetter, of Gainesville and one daughter, Anmelie (Gerry) Sheils of Newberry; seven grandchildren, Marie (Ken) Theiss, Miryam (Michael) Reems, Ryan Hofstetter, Erik Hofstetter, Eileen Sheils, Erin Sheils and by three great grandchildren, Evelyn Reems, Cooper Hofstetter and Grayson Reems.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 9:00 A. M., at Holy Faith Catholic Church, with Fr. John M. Philips, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Catholic Charities, 1701 NE 9th Street, Gainesville, FL 32609.
