Margaret Clare Shoemyen, 91, died September 11, 2017 in Gainesville, Florida. She was born in Columbia, South Carolina to Edward Francis Wilkinson and Elizabeth Mae Wilkinson. She was predeceased by her husband, Janos Z. Shoemyen, Read Obituary
Clare was my OT internship supervisor at the VA in 1981. She also did the flowers for my wedding in 1984. I will always remember her kind and gentle spirit. I'm so sorry for your loss. Deborah (Porter) Garren
I met Clare at Dudley Farm Historic State Park in the summer of 2011. She immediately invited me to join the Domestic Skills Group on Wednesday mornings and encouraged me to work in the Commissary. With a sparkle in her eye, she shared her skills and her love of plants -- and let me tell you, her needlework skills were impeccable! If you found a plant that you did not recognize, Clare was the one who could identify it and tell you all about it!
One of my most pleasant memories of her took place when my aunt and parents visited Dudley Farm. The four of them were all about the same age and exchanged stories and memories spurred by the items in the farmhouse and kitchen. Although they literally grew up worlds apart, they shared many similarities. As always, she made her guests feel welcome (even though it was not even her house).
I would like to thank her family for sharing her with the "Dudley Farm family." Although, not to the same degree, we share your tears and fond memories -- her smile, her gentle laughter, and her caring heart.

I was so sad to read Clare's obituary in the Sun this morning. With Irma and having house guest evacuees from St. Petersburg and trying to get ready for my departure Sept. 18, I had not had a chance to get over to see her in Skilled Nursing. I knew the end was near and tried to indicate that in my last note. She seemed ready to go to greener pastures.
Clare was always such a gentle lady. I admired her greatly and loved her for her combination of sweetness and spunk and support for Janos.
My life in Gainesville was richer because they welcomed me into their home and hearts.
The family was fortunate to have had them for so long and to have been able to be so close.
I won't get back from my European vacation until October 10, so will miss the celebration of Clare's life on Oct. 8. Know that I will be thinking of her and you at that time, and before and after.
